Content Guidelines

At Talk Tech Africa, we want to encourage sharing, learning, and meaningful conversations—while keeping the community organized, respectful, and valuable to everyone. These guidelines explain the types of content that are welcomed, and what we ask contributors to avoid.

  1. Share Value-Driven Content

Your content should:

  • Inform, educate, or inspire
  • Reflect the realities or opportunities in Africa’s tech ecosystem
  • Be relevant to the space or topic you’re posting in
  • Respect intellectual property and attribution rules

Examples of valuable content:

  • Tutorials or how-to guides
  • Personal experiences or lessons learned
  • Project showcases or startup updates
  • Tools, templates, and curated resources
  • Tech news or opinion pieces—with context and analysis
  1. Attribution and Originality

Always:

  • Share original work when possible
  • Give credit to authors, designers, or developers when using third-party resources
  • Include links to sources when referencing data or quotes

Avoid:

  • Copying blog posts or tweets word-for-word without consent or credit
  • Posting screenshots of copyrighted content without context

Plagiarism or unauthorized republishing may result in content removal and account action.

  1. Keep It Relevant and On-Topic

Stay focused on:

  • African technology and innovation
  • Career development, education, and digital skills
  • Real-world tech use cases and solutions
  • Cross-disciplinary topics (e.g., tech + health, design + business)

If you’re unsure where to post something, ask a moderator for guidance.

  1. Respectful Language and Inclusive Tone

Content must avoid:

  • Harmful stereotypes or discriminatory language
  • Insults, trolling, or passive-aggressive behavior
  • Clickbait titles or misleading statements

We welcome different views, but all discussion must remain constructive.

  1. Allowed Promotion (With Limits)

You can share your:

  • Projects, startups, newsletters, or events, if they contribute to a broader conversation
  • Job opportunities or calls for collaboration, if they include clear context and value

Please avoid:

  • Mass-posting the same link across multiple spaces
  • Promoting unrelated products or services
  • DM spam or “follow for follow” threads

If you’re unsure whether a post crosses the line, ask yourself: “Will this benefit the community, or just me?”

  1. Visual and Multimedia Content

Feel free to include:

  • Screenshots or demos
  • Infographics and visual explainers
  • Recorded talks or podcasts (with summaries)

Make sure visuals are clear, relevant, and not offensive. Add alt text or brief descriptions if possible for accessibility.

  1. Low-Quality or Banned Content Includes:
  • Empty posts (e.g., “What do you think?” without context)
  • Chain messages or fake giveaways
  • AI-generated spam or regurgitated content
  • Pirated software, cracked tools, or illegal resources
  • NSFW or violent content

Final Reminder:

Our content guidelines are meant to protect quality, respect, and relevance. By sharing thoughtfully, you help grow a space where African tech talent thrives.
