Reporting & Safety

Your safety and sense of belonging are important to us. Talk Tech Africa is a space where everyone—regardless of background, experience, or location, should feel safe, respected, and free to express themselves within the boundaries of our community standards.

This article outlines how to report issues and what we do to maintain a secure environment.

  1. What You Can Report

You should report any behavior or content that:

  • Violates our Community Guidelines
  • Involves harassment, bullying, or hate speech
  • Includes spam, scams, or malicious links
  • Shares misinformation or fake opportunities
  • Infringes on intellectual property or privacy
  • Involves threats or personal endangerment

Examples:

  • Someone sending you aggressive or inappropriate DMs
  • A post that spreads hate or targets a group
  • Suspicious job ads or phishing links
  1. How to Report Content or Users

We offer several ways to report concerns:

In-Platform Reporting

  • Click the flag or report icon on any post, comment, or user profile
  • Choose the reason for reporting
  • Optionally, provide a brief explanation

Direct Support Contact

If you need to report something more sensitive (e.g., harassment in private messages), email our support team at:
📩 support@talktechafrica.org
Or use the Report an Issue Form

Reports are confidential and reviewed by trained moderators.

  1. What Happens After You Report
  • A moderator will review the report promptly
  • If the issue is clear, appropriate action will be taken (warning, post removal, account restriction, or ban)
  • In complex cases, we may reach out for more information

We take every report seriously, and we strive to act fairly and consistently.

  1. Blocking & Muting

If another member is bothering you but not violating rules:

  • Use the Mute feature to stop seeing their posts
  • Use Block to prevent them from messaging or interacting with you

These tools are available in your profile settings and on user profiles.

  1. What We Don’t Tolerate
  • Retaliation against members who report issues
  • False reporting meant to harass others
  • Encouraging others to target someone (dogpiling)

We investigate abuse of the reporting system and may take action against those who misuse it.

  1. Your Role in Keeping the Community Safe
  • Don’t engage or escalate, report and move on
  • Encourage respectful discussions
  • Support those who face unfair treatment
  • Set an example in how you post and interact

In Urgent or Dangerous Situations

If someone is in immediate danger or expressing signs of crisis (e.g., suicidal thoughts, threats of violence), report it and contact local authorities if possible. Our moderators can act swiftly, but we are not a crisis line.

Safety is a shared responsibility. Thanks for doing your part to keep Talk Tech Africa inclusive, respectful, and secure for all.
